RAGNAR RELAY: WASATCH BACK 2009
This was a fun (but painful) adventure. I was on a team with 11 other people and we spent two days running through the mountains of Utah--190 miles. We each ran three legs of the relay--I was runner #3. I experienced a lot of new things: couldn't breathe because of allergies so had to use an inhaler, slept on a church parking lot (and actually slept), ran 18.5 miles on an undiagnosed stress fracture, ran with a headlamp and reflective vest, ran up and up and up, and after total discouragement from running slow (the sore leg) still found joy in running uphill through the rain! What a GREAT time! Seriously, I'm doing it again in November in Florida and again next June!
Pre-race with the official "Ragnar Van"
Finishing my first leg--can't breathe!
Courtnee also ran with a different team--her friends and coaches from Cross Country. Our teams started at the same time, but their younger legs finished faster. She decided to start the race with a climb on a new kind of treadmill. She stayed on forever, wore herself out, and almost won the treadmill, but had to settle for a shirt. She loved it, too, and can't wait for her next chance to run one.
At the start line--happy, rested, excited!
