There has been a lot of discussion in our home these past few weeks about the election. Lainey's 5th grade class is studying America this year and their teacher has been great about bringing the election into their studies. Consequently, Lainey seems to know the most about the election process and has been explaining it to the rest of us. I guess Joe actually knows the most about it as our Political Science B.A., but Lainey has the most interest so she has asked him a lot of questions and then she explains it to us. Lainey had a test on the election and here is one of her questions and answers:
Lainey also informed us of the latest elementary school rumors about presidential candidates. Because we are a Republican-dominated state, all of the rumors were about Obama:
-Obama is going to kill all the babies.
-Obama is going to make kids go to school for 10 hours a day and 1/2 the day on Saturday.
-Obama will be an "Obamanation."
-Obama is the devil.
Those are the only ones I remember, but there were many more! Lainey didn't say much in response, but she is afraid to tell her friends that one of her parents voted for Obama and the other one wish they did, but didn't have the guts. For her class election, Lainey wrote in her own name. Somehow I can see that happening, but Riley is determined that she will be the first woman president now that "that Clinton lady" isn't. Courtnee wrote an excellent editorial in the newspaper about the election and Halle is just riding the wave.
As for me, I am the gutless one, but I'm excited to see how the changes play out. Yesterday at the gym, I was ending my workout with some relaxing stretching and music and debating about who I would vote for. It struck me at that moment how incredibly blessed I am to get to vote. I wasn't working at a back-breaking job, my children aren't hungry, I have a healthy body, and I have a choice. What a wonderful country to live in and what a wonderful time to be alive!
