Courtnee & Trevor at Promenade
We all survived our first Grantsville High School Prom! Prom is a very big deal in our little community. Courtnee, and the rest of the Junior class spent two hours every weeknight for a month practicing for promenade. Parents, grandparents, and anyone in the community that wanted to come (and pay) assembled at the high school at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, to watch the juniors promenade. There were 90 couples and each boy and girl were announced by name and their parent's names. They then descended a staircase and met where the boys handed the girls a rose. They then descended another staircase together, walked to the center of the gym floor, performed a 3-point turn so that everyone could see them, stopped at a large urn for the girls to put their rose in and lined up at the end of the gym until every couple was announced. This took over an hour--Courtnee and her partner were #6 so they stood and waited for a very long time. After they were all announced they spread out on the floor and performed a choreographed dance that was quite spectacular. They went all around the room in small groups and large groups and did lots of neat movements. It was fun to see all of the beautiful dresses and the boys in their tuxedos. Then, they lined up on the opposite sides and did the entire dance again so that everyone in the gym could see everyone. I complained about all of the time it took to prepare, but the results really were amazing. Courtnee went to Promenade with Trevor Daniels, a fellow violin player, good friend, and a cute boy in our ward.
Courtnee & Nate
Courtnee's prom date started at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning with breakfast on top of Black Rock. She went to prom with another cute boy from our ward, Nate Isom, and 4 other couples. After breakfast, they went to the Gateway and played games and then each couple spent $4 on whatever they could find that would be the "coolest." Courtnee and Nate went to Discovery Gateway and bought a parachute guy and a "guts" ball. After they finished there, the guys went to work on some "surprises" and the girls came back to our house to watch The Notebook. (This was not part of the plan. Thanks to the Cartwright girls for the frantic cleaning!) The boys came back and got the girls at about 2:30 and took them to Stansbury Lake where they ate dinner on a floating gazebo--a steak dinner. After that, it was back home for the primping. We spent at least an hour curling Courtnee's hair, and twirling rhinestones into it. She looked amazing and was very excited. Nate picked her up around 6:30--in a U-Haul. She knew this was coming and she was worried about it, but it turned out really neat: the boys decorated it with flowers and lights and curtains and put couches in it with blankets and pillows. They also all lined up along the ramp and held roses each time the girls got in and out. After promenade, they stayed for the dance, and then had ice cream and rode around in the U-Haul which Courtnee said was a "blast." It was a long day, but she really had a great time. Thanks Trevor & Nate!
