"I'm Proud to be an American"

*Lainey is on the first row on the left with a blue bandanna.

Lainey's 5th grade Patriotic Program was last week and so good to see. Grandpa and Grandma Turner came with cousins Baylee and Mckenzie Clement. We had dinner at our house and then went to the program. It was wonderful--I always complain about how much school time they use practicing for the programs, but I'm always so glad that they do! I especially like this program because it coincides with everything they are learning about America--history, geography, politics, etc. It was fun for them to have the presidential election this year as well.

Lainey had a speaking part and then the day before the program her teacher asked her to memorize another one for someone who was sick. No problem. She had it all memorized and performed it perfectly for the next four performances.

Speaking part #2.

The songs are wonderful, the dancing is fun, the spoken parts are inspiring and they all recite the preamble to the Constitution from memory. One of my favorite parts is when they have special community helpers stand in the center circle and they sing to them--police officers, soldiers, doctors, nurses, vets, etc. This year was especially meaningful to me because we used a lot of those community helpers when I fell and hit my head last August: 2 EMTs, 2 Paramedics, 1 Police Officer, 2 Ambulance Drivers and all of the staff at the Emergency Room at the Hospital. So I add a big THANK YOU to all of those wonderful community helpers--especially teachers!!!
