Another school year has begun--the first term actually ended this last week. The girls are busy getting good grades and participating in lots of extras. I spent the last two years juggling four different school schedules, but this year there are only two: Courtnee and Riley at the high school and Lainey and Halle at Grantsville Elementary School.
COURTNEE
Courtnee is really enjoying her last year as a senior, except for Calculus! She is the senior class historian, running cross country, taking college and AP classes, and interning at the local newspaper as a reporter. She actually has her easiest schedule ever, but the classes she does have are difficult--AP English, AP Calculus, and English 1010 (college). She also has Seminary, 2 intern classes, Student Government, and study hall. She is also busy with NHS and the Academic Olympiad team. Despite everything she has going on, she is having fun and seems less stressed than she has for a long time! Is it due to a certain boy? We will begin her college applications in November and her Sterling Scholar stuff in December.
RILEY
Riley is enjoying her first year of high school and trying out lots of different things to see what her niche is. Her core classes are Geometry, Biology, Honors English. Her electives (too many I think) are Floriculture, Seminary, Pottery, Foods, and Child Development. She took Floriculture because she is in FFA and needed an ag class. She has already done some judging, at Snow College, and did quite well considering she was a last minute entry and not prepared at all. She spent one weekend with a mechanical baby which was very interesting. It became somewhat real to all of us and I would find myself covering it with a blanket because it "looked cold." She spent a few sleepless nights "feeding, burping, changing, and rocking" the baby. She was glad when it went back! She just finished up her first season of high school soccer and is working really hard to get good grades.
LAINEY
Lainey is in 5th grade this year. Her teacher is Mrs. May. She is doing well and enjoying everything, as usual. She is a reading maniac (like her mom) and has to do a monthly book report on a specific kind of book. She is going to try and use horses in each one. The first month was a sports book so she read National Velvet, a book about horse racing. She is also writing like crazy and is getting really good! She wants to write a book so that she can earn enough money to buy a horse. The 5th graders learn about US History and present a US history program in the Spring so she is busy learning the geography of the US, mainly the states and their capitals. She loves four square and is not afraid to take on the boys! She is also taking piano and dance and will start horseback riding lessons soon.
HALLE JO
Halle's 3rd grade teacher is Mrs. Geldmacher and Halle is very proud that she can spell her name. It is a new elementary school for Halle this year and she likes riding the bus with Lainey again. She is reading, spelling and loving math still and will soon begin learning cursive writing (which I think is going to become a lost art). She and I finished up the last book in the Little House on the Prairie series and we are now reading all of the American Girl books. So far we have read all of the Felicity books and all but one of the Addy books. The 3rd graders do a Nutcracker program in December and she will be a "guest" at the party. She is excited about that because she gets to eat a cookie! She is getting really good at jump roping and even practices it without a rope! She is going to dance and tumbling and loves going to Activity Day with Lainey now that she is 8.
