Team Turner at SLC Marathon

We did it! Our Team Turner members competed in the SLC 5k on April 19, 2008. It was a perfect running day-a little bit windy, but sunny and cool. Courtnee was our winner, but Riley and Taylor and Lesley and Brian weren't far behind. Dad and I had a great walk together and it was fun to spend that time with just him--I don't get to do that very often. Later, we watched Baylee, on Tim's shoulders, and Mckenzie run the Kid's Marathon 1k--way to go girls! Tim, LeAnne, and Mom came to cheer us on and help shuttle us and Joe willingly stayed at home with a sick Lainey and Halle. Some of the highlights were: being together, supporting a good cause-the Huntsman Cancer Institute, watching spiderman run the 5k, the food at the end, watching the winning marathoners speed by, Courtnee's new friend--a man older than me who ran an amazingly fast 1/2 marathon at just over an hour and asked her, "so what do you do?"

After the race we went back to the Turner homestead to celebrate Mom's birthday on April 20. We ate, talked, laughed, looked at wedding pictures, opened present, and even discussed some politics and news. I planned on taking pictures to post, but when I tried to turn on the camera, I discovered that there was no memory card.

It was nice to be celebrating good health, a new marriage, a birthday! At this time last year, Dad was diagnosed with cancer. What a blessing to have him recovered, feeling good, and completing a 5k. Two years ago, we had just lost Tari to breast cancer and Grandma Turner passed away on April 19. It is nice to have a season of joy this year, instead of worry and sorrow.
